Bad economy is great for consulting

By Eric · Friday, January 2nd, 2009

I have found that during the so-called “economic woes” that things are better than ever in my world.

Perhaps it is due to the fact that companies are downsizing, perhaps letting go of their on staff employees, but the day to day networking and security needs are still there.

In fact, I would say those needs are greater than ever!

Why?

Because the tech-heads who got laid off now have more time on their hands…

And tech-heads who are into hacking with time on their hands, equals what? Yep, you guessed it, more debauchery!

But that is good for us IT Network and Security consultants!

So, as my good friends in Australia say, “No worries, mate!”

Totally agree with this.

A company cannot cut its networking staff too significantly before experiencing pain and negative consequences. IMHO intranets and the internet are so ingrained into our daily work lives that I consider the network to be the “backbone” of any IT operation.

Unfortunately in my experience many IT managers (higher up managers usually) do not realize this and start cutting back on networking resources.

But (not an Australian) - no worries, thankfully there are enough enlightened managers around :)

Cheers,
Francis
